Quotes, Comments and Other Funny Stuff!
This section contains interview or article mentions of Eskimo Joe. I've noticed that people like Little Birdy, End of Fashion etc mention the members of Eskimo Joe in some form in some interviews that they do. I thought that it would be a interesting little addition to see what others say about Eskimo Joe!

Simon Leach - Between Big Day Out shows and during tour downtime, Eskimo Joe frontman Kav Temperley has been working on a recording under
the Debaser Community Orchestra moniker, featuring various Western Australian acolytes. Simon noted that the amusing
creations are the latest in a long line of amusing Eskimo Joe songs.
“Stu [Macleod] and Kav have always been like that,” Simon noted. “I’ve known them since high school, although I’m three years older, and they’ve always loved writing funny stuff and entertaining themselves.”
Some people might think Kav takes himself too seriously and looks pretty dour in photo shoots and videos.
“He does, doesn’t he?” Simon answered. “He looks like Old Constipated Face. He first did that in the From The Sea video and I thought it was weird, but maybe that’s just because I know him. He is now more serious than he once was.”
Do you want to bring back the old Kav?
“Nah, he’s a better person now,” Simon acknowledged. “When he was younger he was a little too hippyesque. He kind of grew up in that environment and was so vague that you’d always be waiting on him. Now he’s really responsible. Back in the day we’d have a joke about how if he said he was only going to be five minutes, we’d call it a Fremantle five minutes, which is actually an hour.”
Originally based in Victoria, Simon became mates with the future Eskimo Joe members soon after moving to Western Australia.
“I grew up in Mildura and went to the same school as Kit Warhurst [Rocket Science] and Myf [Warhurst, ABC personality], so I’ve known those guys since school too. I moved to Perth when I was 19 or 20 and Joel [Quartermain] from the Eskies was my first friend. He lived behind me and we formed a band with Kav and my brother. Then they started doing Eskimo Joe for fun and entered a Campus Band Competition. I don’t know if you’ve heard their early stuff at all but there were songs about Cocoa Pops and all that sort of shit. It was all really tongue in cheek.” - Simon Leach
Matt Chequer - Matt was also able to defuse another story linked with the band. At the time of the release of Eskimo Joe’s 2006 opus
Black Fingernails Red Wine, singer Kav Temperley suggested that his song Sarah was written as a result of a bet with Katy
and boyfriend Justin Burford of End Of Fashion. The bet involved the trio attempting to each write a song which included
references to Limahl’s 1984 soundtrack hit The Never Ending Story.
“Sarah has blatantly got the Never Ending Story melody in it,” Matt agreed. “I’ll tell you the truth about that story – it’s a load of bullshit! It’s just Kav making up a story to make an excuse for his Never Ending Story fetish. I think it was probably Joel [Quartermain, Eskimo Joe drummer] who bet him he couldn’t write a song with The Never Ending Story melody in it, but it definitely wasn’t a bet with Katy.”
Mark Di Renzo - Can you tell AMO a story behind your latest release?
Quite often we were scratching around for something that we'd like to use in the studio whether it be a certain guitar, a
pair of earphones or a tambourine. We recorded the Some Suburban Road EP with the crew at Debaser Studios mainly in an old
shed (and the occasional bedroom) in Fremantle.
One day we were recording and it was important for us to get an acoustic guitar part down as Joel (Quartermain, Eskimo Joe) was about to shoot off to the east coast for a number of weeks to mix the Eskimo Joe album so we needed to finish the track that day. Rodney (Aravena, End of Fashion) had arranged to lend an acoustic from Kav (Temperley, Eskimo Joe). However, I think Kav had forgotten about it and had gone out so Rodney had to pretty much break into his house to get the guitar. But it was worth it - the acoustic sounded great!
